ATC Sunday
At the end, we recognised the hard work and engagement of some of our cadets and NCOs, with a well deserved round of promotions.
Wing Athletics
Saturday 13th May was our annual Wing athletics meet at Saffron Lane Athletics stadium.
Competing against the thirty other Squadrons in our wing and with only a very small team, not even competing in every event, our squadron finished a respectable 15th.
We had three cadets who triumphed in their chosen events and they will go on to represent our Wing at the regional championships on Saturday 10th June at Grantham Athletics Stadium.
Well done to all our cadets that took part.
A special mention to Sgt Singer who smashed his own Personal best AND the Wing record (That he already held) in the 400m & 800m events.
By setting the new Wing records, Sgt Singer won the trophy for the Best Male Athlete of the day.
The three cadets that will go on to the regionals are:
Cdt Samantha Stock - 800m
Cpl Georgina Middleton - 100m, Shot & Relay
Sgt Finn Singer - 400m & 800m
Pretty Muddy 5K
This Sunday (7th May 23), Cpl Kelham and Sgt Macefield completed the pretty muddy 5k, situated around the grounds of Prestwold Hall in North Leicestershire.
We navigated our way through countless obstacles including an A frame cargo net, a giant mud slide, as well as some natural obstacles given the recent rain in the area.
Tractors had left their marks on the ground resulting in nice deep channels of sludge to wade through.
The race was in order to raise money for Cancer Reasearch UK as well as the Multiple Sclerosis Society. These are two charities dedicated to finding cures for the respective conditions.
Sgt Macefields' Dad has endured Multiple Sclerosis for a decade now so he has witnessed firsthand the limiting effects it has to everyday life, "I am glad that the Charity is working towards a cure. In total our pub team raised nearly £4,000 with Cpl Kelham and myself amassing £595. We hope to return next year and raise even more money." Said Sgt Macefield.
RAF Newton Memorial
Sunday 23rd April 2023, the 1084 band paraded again!
We joined 1936 Newton Squadron RAFAC and East Midlands University Air Squadron, Polish Air Force Representatives, Veterans and Dignitaries this weekend to unveil a new statue in Newton Village.
The memorial was designed by ex-Newton cadet Tim O’Brien to commemorate all personnel who served at RAF Newton before it closed in 2001.
It was a drizzly day for it, but it all went really well, and the cadets got to meet Air Chief Marshall Sir Andrew Pulford GCB CBE ADC former Chief of the Air Staff to talk about his experience in the forces too.
Air Cadets meet Red Arrows pilot in inspiring talk from 'Red 5'
Cadets from across parts of Northamptonshire and Leicestershire had an unmatched opportunity to enjoy a meet and greet with Red Arrows pilot Flight Lieutenant Patrick Kershaw on Monday 5th March, in an event hosted at 422 (Corby) Squadron RAF Air Cadets HQ. The talk, arranged by Flight Lieutenant Helen Greaves of 1084 (Market Harborough) Squadron brought together over 100 cadets from neighbouring units to hear a presentation from Red 5 on his journey into the Royal Air Force and pathway to becoming a Red Arrow, before spending over half an hour answering questions from the cadets and those aspiring to join the Royal Air Force and other Armed Forces. After the formal Q&A, the cadets had time to mingle and take photographs with Flight Lieutenant Kershaw, finally followed by a formal picture of all those involved.

Commendations for Cadet Staff
Last week, our first responder squadron staff received some very important awards!
In 2022, a medical emergency occurred on the pitch of our neighbour, Harborough Town FC. The rapid actions of our first responder staff members were critical in saving the life of one of their players.
The evening of Monday the 9th saw Lord Lieutenant Mike Kapur (of Leicestershire), visit 1084 to present awards; rewarding our squadron staff for their courageous efforts. Another recipient was a trainer from Harborough Football Club that first started CPR before our staffs' arrival.

Christmas Camp
Remembrance Sunday
Sunday 13th November saw our cadets partaking in the annual remembrance parade in the town.
All of our newly joined cadets formed the marching body in the parade, whilst many of our more experienced cadets formed our band that took their usual position, leading the parade through the town.
For one of our cadets, it will be her last outing on a major parade as a cadet as she will age out early next year. Cadet Sgt Blackwell took this opportunity to place our air cadet wreath on the memorial, watched over by the entire congregation for the service on the town square, as well as performing with our squadron band.
Battle of Britain Sunday
Sunday 18th September 2022 saw our cadets and staff attend St. Nicholas Church in Little Bowden to commemorate the battle of Britain.
On Sunday 15 September 1940, the Luftwaffe launched its largest and most concentrated attack against London in the hope of drawing out the RAF into a battle of annihilation. Around 1,500 aircraft took part in the air battles which lasted until dusk. The action was the climax of the Battle of Britain. RAF Fighter Command defeated the German raids; the Luftwaffe formations were dispersed by a large cloud base and failed to inflict severe damage on the city of London. In the aftermath of the raid, Hitler postponed Sea Lion. Having been defeated in daylight, the Luftwaffe turned its attention to The Blitz night campaign which lasted until May 1941.
Battle of Britain Day, 15 September, is now an annual commemoration of the battle in the United Kingdom. The commemoration takes place on the closest Sunday of September.
